Step 9 Make Direct Amends

Ninth Step:
"Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others."

The 9th step in the 12 step recovery plan is a critical part of the recovery process. It is not to be done immediately when entering the active recovery phase of your addiction treatment. I do find that step 9 is more likely does not to receive the time, attention and dedication it deserves.

Community Organizations / Services / Groups such as Al-Anon, provide Recovery Support for Families and Loved Ones that are Effected by the Person with an Addiction.

Bottom Line:

Families and loved ones also go through recovery. Their recovery is a healing process and learning how not to be co-dependent on the person with the addiction. The person in recovery should be learning about co-dependence and how in a stage of their active recovery, they will not be co-dependent on the family members anymore.
